Hi All!...I went to the 2001 AJCHS Homecoming Game this past Friday Night. A Few Comments: I have probably only missed a couple of games since I graduated in 1976. I was so impressed with the interactive nature of this Homecoming event. I saw current students in support, College students from AJ, Alumni old and young. Parents, Grandparents, and the like. Everyone seemed to be involved on some level. The sponsors were generous, the various organizations that made up the prowl were in full force. The class of 1961 was there to celebrate thier reunion. Beyond the game itself (which of course was great, if you were from AJ), the evening was alive. I guess I want to thank all involved in the event for keeping a lifelong community tradition alive and well for all of us.

Wonderful town Anna. Would be interested in hearing from any who remember me. Life has been rather nice in San Diego which makes it difficult to get away. I am so proud of the heritage which I carry, wherever I go, in all that I do. I am living proof that you can take the boy out of Union Co. country, but you cannot take the country out of the boy. One more small request, It would be nice to see some photos of the that wonderful library that was designed by one of Frank Lloyd Wrights students, and some of the older homes on Main st. and the counryside which is probably the areas most treasured assets. STOP THE MADNESS!! Hello. My name is Melissa Huirua (nee Johnson) and I graduated from AJCHS in 1995. I am writing to voice my opinion regarding this outrage of skilled athletes sitting on the bench because they do not have wealth or status or position in the community. I think it is a poor reflection of what once was a proud, thriving community, with a very strong football team. I believe that school ‘politics’ or individual agendas should not interfere with the playing of the game. The players who possess the necessary skills, regardless of who their parents happen to be or what position they hold in the community should be the ones playing. It should be about the level of loyalty and commitment to the school. I think a Parent Support Network should be initiated where those parents with issues concerning favoritism or prejudice can seek support from the rest of the community. A place where honor, courage, and the concept of ‘fair play’ can be discussed. Come on Wildcats, let’s get with the program! As for me, I am now living 12 000 miles away in New Zealand. I am happily married with a 4 year old son, and I am enjoying the opportunities and experiences of a new culture.

i dont know about anyone else but i am really getting tired about this name game that is being played at the high school with sports there are alot of really good boys and girls that are good althetes and arent playing because they arent certain people, as for the coaches it takes someone who cares for each and every player to be a true coach not someone who doesnt let people play because of who they are or there parents are, if you ask me it seems that the coaches need to grow up and be the coaches they need to be not who influnced them to be. give each and every player a chance for the ability they have not who they are or where they come from. it would make the highschool sports a lot more better to come see. i agree does anyone else

I am looking for information regarding the Burns family. My mother, Bernice, was raised in Anna back in the teens and 1920's. She had 3 sisters, and 5 brothers. There names are Robert, Harry, Harold, Ernest, Jack and Doby. Her sister, Kathryn, just recently died. She had two sisters Lorraine and Virginia that died very young. My grandparents names are Arthur and Eule Burns. Both are buried in Anna. If anyone has any fond memories of them or how I can contact the Anna Cementary, please email at the addres listed. I understand that a scholarship was given away in Jack Gearhart's name this pass weekend. Great. Good begats good. I was told a story of a young man who stood and introduce himself as his sister's sister. Young man let me tell you a story. I was on an Elk hunting trip, it just happen that a very special old acquaintence of mine and his friend arrived at the my brother's campsite. Feeling awkard I thought I will make everyone feel at ease and introduce myself. I did with hand out to shake the hand of this stranger to show my old friend how socially adjusted I had become I said. "I'm Janet, Bob's other brother." Rarely am I ever called Janet anymore: to name a few, My other brother, Phoebe, Prudy...Young man you have joined the elite group that let people laugh and enjoy another human being. I'm interested in learning more about the history of Jonesboro as my great, great, great grandfather was reportedly one of the first white settlers there in approximately 1816. The family history records say that the family was very involved in helping to build your town. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Do you have a historical society or something? Hi there. I first came dowm to Anna in May of this year to rekindle my relationship with my high-school sweetheart. I have since been down 3 more times and have fallen in love with the area. I grew up in Pulaski, but moved to Union Co. 4 years ago. We live in Dongola now, but we lived in Jonesboro for awhile. I really enjoyed living up there. Several friends whom I went to Meridian with have moved up here. Seems like everyone is moving here...but who can blame them...it is a wonderful place to live. Good job on the website.

I'm from Pontiac, IL, originally Dwight, IL. and I was looking for an address in Anna and I accidentally ran across this website. My husband, Alfred Buster, was born and raised in Anna-Jonesboro but left for service for eight years in '54 and in '62 came to Pontiac to work as a correction officer at the Pontiac Prison for 27 1/2 years. He passed away July 1 of this year. He still has two sisters, brother-in-law & nephews there and other relatives there and also in Herrin. I wish I would have found this website long before now cause I know he would have enjoyed it so I felt very sad when browsing the site. We visited there every year at least once, sometimes more, for the past 35 years. We always enjoyed it so much. I know I will miss it. Also enjoyed attending mass at St. Mary's. I have enjoyed visiting this site. My father was raised in Anna,Charles Chrisman,graduated from AJHS, left to got to WWII. My "adopted" grandparents, Carroll & Lois Foster,lived/died and are buried there. I believe the VFW was named after their son, Carroll P. Foster, who died in l942, Clark Field, the Philippines. Is the VFW still there, and is his name still on it? They were members of the Baptist church there. I have many fond memories of my visits there: the warm summer nights, the fireflies, the Saturday matinees, the sound from the train whistle and the whistle blowing at the State Hospital. While, Anna was not my hometown, it is the town I associate all the warm memories of childhood with. Thanks.

Last year, while on my senior trip with 7 of my graduated friends I was fortunate to meet 3 awesome Anna-Jonesboro woman. They are Kelley Miller, Kendra Moehring, and Erin Cunningham. We spent a whole week together in Myrtle Beach and I have so many memories of those ladies. As it stands out those 3 ladies are also standouts on the basketball team. I have been fortunate to meet them and fortunate to hear about Anna-Jonesboro itself. I also enjoyed the website very formal with a well thought of layout.

I was born in McLeansboro,IL in 1952. I live in PA now but I am trying to get information about Anna State Hospital. My grandfather was a patient @ Anna back in the early 1930's for epilepsy, he died in 1936, and I was hoping to find out possibly info on when he was admitted and how long he was actually in Anna. My Grandmother(now deceased) said he was forced to go there, by his mother. If anyone can help me with ANY kind of info or direction that I can go I would be ever so greatful. My father was a little boy there . He was born in Saratoga IL. My grandparents died there and are buried there. I never knew them and would like to find out about them.His name was WILLIS F. LENCE died 1937-Her name was MARTHA,GRIFFITH,LENCE died 1943 They had four boys EVERETT he spelled the last name LANCE-and JOHN R. LENCE-LEE ROY LENCE-and DAVID LENCE there was a little girl also died very little. the boys were all separated in 1918 or 1922 due to Martha being ill. My father worried about his missing family all his life. My father was Lee Roy Lence he died 1987. He found David a couple of years before he died[my dad],but DAVID had died two years before. It really would be nice to find the rest of the family. I know that alot of LENCE's live in this area by Anna & Jonesboro, is there anyone that can help.

Hi. How ya doing? I think you should advertize more about this website. i had a lot of trouble getting here. i usually quit when it takes ten minutes to get to one web site. But i really wanted to se my town on the computer. I think you need more people chatting.That brings us back to the point of advertizing more. As a soon to be student at Anna-Jonesboro Comunity High school I speak for every body in my favor that you need games. But not just any games, cool games at that. We the students need some educational knowledge with fun things to do. Every body wonders why young adults drop out of school. As an experienced good student that has not dropped out I would like to tell you this on my be half, students drop out of class and\or school because school has got more boring than ever! I would like it very much if you would hear me out. students would rather party all day long,but iI am not saying that the school should party on like a bunch of hairless gorillas. I am saying maybe two days a week like on Mondays and Fridays you play a little educational game in some classes. why did iI pick Mondays and Fridays? Well, because those are the two hardest days to concentrate as a student, I also think it is hard for a teacher too. why? Because,mondays everybody is very tired from the weekend and on Fridays it is hard because it is the last day of the week. I also think we sould be able to bring a snack and eat it during class. I live in a very large, extremely busy part of Illinois. (Naperville, 45 minutes from Chicago) 120,000 people, no scnenery, lots of subdivisions, and pollution! I love being close to the mall, but it's a shame that this rat-race takes the pleasure out of just living life. Hi! My name is Gaylon M. Kent. My father, Gaylon H. Kent is from Anna and his parents were Gaylon C. and Mary Hammond Kent. I know this is a long shot, but any memories or insights anyone can share about the Kent's or Hammond's, would be appreciated. The site looks great. I really enjoyed looking at the photos of Anna. I very much dislike the student teachers at AJCHS. Especially the english department(Eng. III) Let's call her Ms. G. So in case you ever go to a school try missing out on that neat program. When you sign up for a class you should expect that an instructor will teach the class not his(Mr. F) student teacher. Besides that I don't mind A-J, except for the NEW!!!!!!!! Backpack rule.
